Drawing on his experience as a solo pop musician and his more recent management work with artists including Maxim Vengerov, Christian Tetzlaff, Stephen Hough and Alison Balsom, Matt Fretton offers personal management and concert booking to a select group of classical artists.
Promoting his first event series when he was fifteen, Matt went on to tour as the opening act for bands including Eurythmics, Depeche Mode, King Crimson, Gang of Four and Bob Geldof’s Boomtown Rats. He released three singles on the Chrysalis label in the early 1980s and subsequently started his own reccord label and recording studio, recording and producing his own music and other artists from pop to free jazz, and collaborating with the late Derek Jarman on a promotional film to accompany his first album.
Matt studied classical singing with Rufus Müller and Alan Ewing, and composition with Barrington Pheloung, and was introduced to the world of song by Graham Johnson.
Following positions at Askonas Holt and Harrison Parrott, Matt started Ferus in 2005. As an independent he has promoted and curated the event series This Isn’t For You, and project managed engagements for Janine Jansen at the Wigmore Hall, and for Gabriela Montero at LSO St Lukes. He has also worked as concert agent for Julian Joseph, and for Jaz Coleman and Gabriela Montero in association with Biglife Management.
