In both concerts and recordings Peter Herresthal has shown himself to be a brilliant and inspired interpreter of contemporary violin music. Strongly associated with works by Scandinavian composers including Per Nørgård, Arne Nordheim, Henrik Hellstenius and Jon Øyvind Ness, Peter also recently gave the spanish premiere of Thomas Adès’ violin concerto and will perform and record the Ligeti violin concerto in 2010.
As a soloist Peter has appeared with orchestras and ensembles including the Oslo Philharmonic, Remix Ensemble, Stavanger Symphony, Trondheim Symphony, Bergen Philharmonic, Oslo Sinfonietta and Bit 20.
Peter's recital and festival appearances have included the Bergen Festival, Leif Ove Andsnes' Risør Chamber Music Festival, Ultima Festival, Oslo Chamber Music Festival,and MAGMA2002 Berlin.
Peter's award-winning recordings with the Oslo Philharmonic include the complete violin works of Arne Nordheim, and Olav Anton Thommessen's violin concerto BullsEye for BIS, and Jon Øivind Ness' violin concerto for Simax.
