Curated by Matt Fretton, This Isn’t For You is a different way to experience classical music. The first series took place in 2007 at Shoreditch Town Hall in the Hoxton area of London, and the last concert of the second series was in June 2009 at Kings Place in London. Hour-long themed programmes juxtapose works by the earliest western composers of what we now call 'classical' music, alongside works by living composers and everything in between. The events are presented informally, without seating or stagige, with no prescription concerning dress, when to applaud, cough, or leave. A licensed bar remains open throughout the events.

Critical Distortions is a collaborative project between cellist Natalie Clein, composer Shive Feshareki and sound artist Simon Fisher Turner, with the aim of exploring the sometimes tense relationship between classical music and the urban environment. In addition to solo cello works by Kodaly & Bach, the programme features Shiva’s composition Critical Distortions for cello and turntables, and part-improvised music with live sampling from Natalie and Simon. Natalie Clein is one of the UK’s finest and and most thoughtful cellists: alongside her core classical engagements she continues to explore all aspects of the music for cello. Shiva Feshareki has worked in several BBC contexts and studies composition with Mark Anthony Turnage. Simon Fisher Turner records for Mute records and his work includes the scores for Derek Jarman's films from Carravagio to Blue.
